Golden Days CaregiversAbout Us

Respite care is defined as a short-term, temporary care designed to help caregivers who have been charged with the primary care of a loved one. This allows them the necessary time needed to be refreshed and recharged.  There are about 3.4 million people in Texas working as caregivers for spouses, parents or other relatives who are limited in their daily activities, according to a 2011 report by the AARP Public Policy Institute. In the United States, it is estimated that 5.4 million people are living with Alzheimer’s disease. Every 70 seconds someone is diagnosed with this disease and new diagnoses are showing up at ages as young as 40 years of age. An astounding 5.1 million of these people are over the age of 65 and another 200,000 people under the age of 65 have Alzheimer’s disease.

The Potter’s House Golden Days Respite Care Program exemplifies standards of excellence in its support for caregivers of their loved ones. Our continued goal is to provide caregivers, churches, and community support groups the information and resources they need to find solutions while caring for those affected by the aging process.

The Potter’s House launched the Golden Day Respite Care Program in January 2010. The Golden Days Caregivers Day Out provides a “day out” for caregivers and implements programs that promote cognitive stimulation, sensory perception and motor skills for their loved ones with Alzheimer’s or dementia. Recently, the program has expanded its reach to include not only those affected by dementia but all seniors. We are open to the public and currently accepting participants.

Held at The Potter’s House of Dallas, the Golden Days Respite Care Program is an all-inclusive community resource that is open to the public.  With the understanding that millions of families have taken the financial, physical, and emotional role in caring for their loved ones; we provide services across several areas.
