Job Duties
Facilities Technician I
The Maintenance Technician I inspects buildings, equipment, and systems for any issues. They schedule repairs for faulty equipment or damaged structures. They also perform general maintenance of the facility and grounds. In addition, they perform periodic quality checks on all equipment and systems to ensure they are up to standards.
Duties & Responsibilities: Responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Dry wall repair.
- Paint walls, ceilings and trim (interior or exterior).
- Repairs plaster and brick.
- Assembling furniture.
- Repairs woodwork with carpenters’ tools and applies finishes.
- Installing shelves.
- Change door locks.
- Hang doors.
- Install or repair weather stripping.
- Hang plaques, pictures and paintings.
- Fix creaking door hinges.
- Replace or install light and dimmer switches.
- Repairs plumbing fixtures.
- Clean light fixtures, test lighting systems weekly.
- Replace minor parts, such as florescent tubes, light bulbs, fuses, starters and diffusers.
- Rearranging tables and chairs as requested.
- Advises management of need for supplies, materials, and tools.
- Any other repairs, maintenance or projects the Facilities Manager requests.
- Changing filters and washing coils on HVAC units.
Basic Qualifications:
- High school required or GED
- 1-3 years in building systems maintenance or a related field required
- Flexible schedule changes and weekend work is sometimes required, including working on Sundays, holidays, and cases of emergencies
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to Identify problems and implement solutions
- Ability to read and carry out written and oral instructions
- Ability to handle constantly changing priorities and demands and work well under pressure
- Ability to perform basic arithmetical functions
- Be highly observant, detail-oriented and self-motivated. Work independently in the absence of supervision
- Ability to verbally communicate effectively and tactfully at all levels, both oral and written
- Physical requirements include lifting, pulling and pushing objects up to 50 pounds, sitting and walking for long periods. Must have ability to climb, stoop and bend
