Celebration To Honor Those Who Raise Domestic Abuse Awareness
DALLAS, March 13, 2009 – For their dedication to ending domestic violence, volunteers of Rahab International Ministries, an outreach for victims of domestic abuse, will indulge in an evening of pampering as they learn about Mary Kay’s commitment to empowering women during a Women’s History Month celebration Monday, March 16 at 7:00 p.m. The event will be held at The Potter’s House, 6777 W. Kiest Blvd., Dallas, Texas 75236.
During the event, Mary Kay representatives will provide makeovers to volunteers of Rahab, the ministry led by Serita Jakes, wife of Bishop T. D. Jakes, senior pastor of the 30,000-member church, The Potter’s House. Mary Kay consultants will also discuss the cosmetic founder’s support for breaking the silence of domestic abuse initiated through the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation. Established in 1996 by Mary Kay Ash, the late founder of Mary Kay, Inc., the organization has donated more than $10 million toward domestic abuse awareness since 2000.
According to statistics, more than 1 million women in the U.S. are assaulted each year by their partners. Domestic violence is the No. 1 cause of injury for women ages 15 to 44, and affects women of all ages, income levels and educational backgrounds. Victims often suffer emotionally from depression, anxiety or social isolation. i Fortunately, many individuals and organizations are dedicated to bettering the lives of abused victims. That’s why Women’s History Month is an ideal time for Rahab to offer care for the caregivers of domestic abuse.
“Our ministry has been a longtime advocate against domestic violence, and we are delighted to extend our love to the volunteers who so graciously serve women and children traumatized by domestic abuse,” said Serita Jakes. “Through our Rahab International Ministries, we offer support, biblical teachings and counseling services to those who are affected by domestic violence. As we endeavor to empower women, programs such as our Women’s History Month celebration help us to continue our commitment.”
