MegaCare Food Drive Fights Hunger
National Campaign To Help Feed Thousands During Recession
DALLAS, February 5, 2009—With soaring unemployment rates, high food prices, excessive foreclosures, and state budget cuts, an increasing number of people throughout the United States are struggling to feed their families. To combat this problem, MegaCARE, the philanthropic arm of The Potter’s House church led by Bishop T. D. Jakes, is conducting the MegaCARE Food Drive during the month of March.
“We have always been focused on serving the whole person through our ministries at The Potter’s House,” said Bishop Jakes of his 30,000-member Dallas-based church. “This commitment includes our dedication through MegaCARE, where we have delivered essential services and support for those in need. By way of the MegaCARE Food Drive, we continue that tradition as we strive to alleviate hunger.”
According to statistics, 850 million people worldwide don’t have enough food to eat.* Sadly, children make up the largest poor population in the United States, and more than 30 million Americans live in poverty. † Add to that, the woes of the deepening recession, in which many non-profit organizations have seen an upsurge in the number of people who need food, leaving them struggling to offer assistance to those who live in lack.
“These financial dynamics have contributed to enormous demands on churches and organizations that provide any type of community service,” said Ronnie Guynes, director of MegaCARE and associate pastor of The Potter’s House, who is urging other pastors and churches throughout the nation to support the MegaCARE Food Drive. “Households and organizations are running out of food. We believe this food drive is a step in the right direction.”
Food contributions will be distributed to food pantries, charitable organizations and families. If you would like to join the fight against hunger, bring your non-perishable items to The Potter’s House before each service, and place them in the blue bins that are located in the lobby.
