Kenya Statement - Bishop Jakes PDF Print E-mail

DALLAS, JANUARY 6, 2008 – The following was released today by Bishop T. D. Jakes, Founder and Senior Pastor of The Potter’s House of Dallas:

“To all of my brothers and sisters in Kenya, I am praying for peace.

“In a dispute often the agendas of each side become more important than the welfare of the country.

“What we need is what was exhibited by the two women who came to Solomon both saying that they were the mothers of a baby. Their dispute was ended because Solomon wisely knew that when he decided to split the baby no real mother would allow it.As he had suspected, one woman gave her rights up for the welfare of the baby.  I am not suggesting that rights be lost but I am saying that people who really love Kenya must work together towards their future and regain control of one of Africa’s greatest resources, the Kenyan people, for whom I have too much love to see them split by tribalism or politics gone awry!

“In Isaiah, chapter one, verse 18 the bible reads in part, “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD.”

“It is not important for me to take sides, to say who is right or who is wrong, when the whole nation is about to be destroyed.

“Let’s save the baby by developing a centrist ideology that seeks the betterment of all before we witness yet another annihilation of a precious country in Africa. Those who think that splitting the nation is Godly must not have the love for the nation.   True love NEVER seeks to destroy the object of that love.

“As Nelson Mandela so eloquently once said,

The time for the healing of the wounds has come.

The moment to bridge the chasms that divide us has come.

The time to build is upon us.

“I do so agree with him and I pray that reason would prevail and that a time of healing be quick in bringing peace to the people to whom I have come to love.”

God’s blessing,
