Serita Jamison Jakes has been involved in Christian ministry her entire adult life and has served alongside her husband, Bishop T. D. Jakes, since their marriage in 1981. As an insightful speaker, she draws heavily from her education and background in theater and mass communications. A soft-spoken woman outside of the pulpit, she has a rare ability to reach and stir her audiences as she works to compliment her husband's ministry. Bishop Jakes holds his wife up as "a woman able to release her husband to minister to the nation and share me as a gift to the Body of Christ." In addition to raising three sons and two daughters, Mrs. Jakes has assumed an active role at The Potter's House of Dallas where her husband is the founder and senior pastor of the nondenominational congregation of more than 30,000 members. She is the co-host of The Potter's Touch, the ministry's weekday television broadcast, and serves as the Executive Director of WoMan-to-Woman, the church's women's ministry, which includes programs that are designed to reach the congregation's women wherever they are in life. Additionally, she founded the publicly acclaimed God's Leading Ladies Life Enrichment Program for the women of the church and a debutante program for its teenage girls. In August 2006, Mrs. Jakes led the grand opening of Clay Academy, the state-of-the-art, Christ-centered private, college preparatory school founded in 1998 by Bishop Jakes and dedicated to his mother's service as an educator. Mrs. Jakes also speaks across the country on women's roles in support of their husbands. She is in demand by women's organizations throughout the nation as a celebrated speaker on issues of marriage and family.
