SMU Dedman School of Law Bestows Executive of The Potter’s House with Top Alumni Award
DALLAS, February 23, 2009—COO Darwin J. Bruce, J.D., recently received the Distinguished Alumni Award for Public Service, a top honor bestowed to select graduates of Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law for outstanding achievements.
SMU’s University President Gerald Turner, along with Dedmon School of Law Dean John Attanasio, and SMU Selection Committee Members Albon Head and Dawn Moore, presented Darwin Bruce with the accolade during an awards dinner Feb. 21 at the Park Cities Hilton Hotel in Dallas.
"I was extremely honored to receive such a prestigious award from such a prominent university. The distinction of the selection committee and fellow honorees made the honor even more significant. This award symbolizes leadership, determination, and service,” said Darwin Bruce, COO of The Potter’s House of Dallas, Inc., a globally recognized multicultural, nondenominational church that offers several outreach ministries and humanitarian efforts. The 30,000-member church is led by Bishop T.D. Jakes.
Bruce joined The Potter’s House in 2004 where he is responsible for managing all of the business affairs for the organization and its affiliated entities. He works with the executive management team to administer all matters affecting corporate structure, strategic planning, and operations of the organization. He has also been responsible for organizing, developing, and managing the legal department to support the organizations associated with The Potter’s House and its operations. Bruce also oversees Clay Academy, the private school affiliated with The Potter’s House, and the development of Capella Park Realty, a new residential development in Dallas. In addition, he serves as Chairman of the Metroplex Economic Development Corporation, an affiliated non-profit organization that provides individuals, families, and entrepreneurs with tools and strategies to help them achieve economic empowerment through various credit, financial, home ownership and entrepreneurial training programs.
Bruce received his Juris Doctorate from SMU School of Law, and holds a Bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Association of Corporate Counsel, the United States Federal District Court in the Northern District of Texas and the United States Federal District Court in the Eastern District of Texas. He also serves on the Executive Board of Directors of SMU School of Law and on the Advisory Board of Directors of SMU School of Engineering.
