DALLAS, April 20, 2012— MegaCARE Missions provides continued support and education to the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex through the Green Initiative and plans to extend those efforts this weekend. In celebration of Earth Day, celebrated annually on April 22, MegaCARE Missions together with the God’s Leading Ladies Program of The Potter’s House, a nine week life enrichment program for women, will partner to deploy more than 200 hundred volunteers to help clean up two North Texas communities, one in Lancaster, which is still trying to rebuild from tornadoes that ravished North Texas this month, and the other will take place in the Bextar Street neighborhood in Dallas.

The Green Effect is an environmentally focused outreach conducted once a quarter in various local communities to raise awareness, reach the community and renovate and/or build healthier locations that are environmentally friendly and efficient. To date, MegaCARE Missions has experienced transformative results though its Earth Day activities, including:

  • Planting more than 2,900 trees within the urban canopy in Dallas/Ft. Worth, estimated to reduce CO2 emission by 1000 pounds/tree/year upon maturity from our environment
  • Recycling 4,200 pounds of consumer electronics to reduce landfill accumulations in Dallas
  • Donating more than 11,900 pounds of durable goods recycled in Dallas/Ft. Worth
  • Removing over 25,000 pounds of litter and debris from neighborhoods streets in Dallas, Cedar Hill, Arlington, Ft. Worth and Plano

“Quality of life for most citizens is directly related to the conditions under which one lives, including our neighborhoods,” said Richard Wesley, associate director for MegaCARE Missions.  “In light of the recent tornadoes we've seen amazing community support, compassion and volunteerism to assist our neighbors, but it's still a long road to full recovery.  MegaCARE endeavors to stand by our partners and neighbors through today's beautification events, humanitarian aid and continued prayers to make a difference and assist in the recovery process.”

Beautification events are designed to protect the vitality and integrity of neighborhoods and help revitalize neighborhoods by helping residents to combat deterioration, litter and graffiti. MegaCARE Missions has been committed to beautification efforts in Dallas neighborhoods since its inception and this Saturday, April 21st, they are set to do it again!
