Senior Associate Pastor, Lawrence Robinson, Featured at Symposium on Older African Americans and Health Disparities in Washington, D.C.


DALLAS, March 20, 2012 – Lawrence Robinson, senior associate pastor at The Potter’s House, was recently selected as a speaker at a symposium on health disparities affecting older African Americans in Washington, D.C. The symposium was sponsored by the White House Office of Faith Based and Neighborhood Partnerships and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Pastor Robinson delivered a presentation to other faith and community leaders that focused on best practices learned through the informational and respite care programs on Alzheimer’s disease held at The Potter’s House. Other featured speakers included Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary, US Department of Health and Human Services; Alexia Kelley, Director, Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships; Karyne Jones, President and Chief Executive Officer, National Caucus and Center on Black Aged, Inc.; Kathy Greenlee, Assistant Secretary for Aging, Administration on Aging; Dr. Althea M. Grant, Chief, Epidemiology and Surveillance Branch, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; Dr. J. Nadine Gracia, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Minority Health, HHS Office of Minority Health; Dr. Janet Wright, Executive Director, Million Hearts™ Campaign and Edwin L. Walker, Deputy Assistant Secretary, Administration on Aging.

The Potter’s House recently implemented the Golden Days Respite Care Program, which is designed to provide caregivers a break from the stressful demands of caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. Led by highly trained staff and volunteers, The Potter’s House Golden Days Respite Care Program is an all-inclusive resource that addresses several key areas of importance, including educational forums, support and financial preparation for the caregiver. The program is held weekly at The Potter’s House, 6777 W. Kiest Blvd., Dallas, TX and is open to the public.
